China’s Green Cities Goals
July 6, 2011 No CommentsQian Zhimin, deputy director of the National Energy Administration, stated that about 100 cities in China should be powered through alternative energy sources by 2015; 200 counties should receive their energy through “unconventional” means; and 1,000 model sites and 10,000 towns should exist in China by 2015.
One such model town is Yujiapu, in the Tianjin municipality. “Yujiapu is set to be a low-carbon financial district leading the nation,” according to Liang Benfan, a senior researcher with the Institute of Urban and Environment Studies under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. 260 enterprises have invested in the Yujiapu financial district in 2011, with a total capital registered for the project of about 60 billion yuan ($9.27 billion).
