Chinese PV System Wins UN Bid

May 18, 2011 No Comments

Suntech Power Co., Ltd. and Peak International Trade (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. have signed a contract that obligates both of them to provide PV systems to the UN within next three years. This is worth $80 million dollars total.

The UN sent an inspector in China in September 2010. After a serious review, the UN announced in December that Peak International and Suntech Power won the bid. As a result, a long term contract was signed. According to Shi Zhengrong, the CEO of Suntech, the UN will add another two years or more if this three-year-contract goes well.

The purchase of the PV system by the UN will be offered to the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations and its subordinates. The first batch will be soon sent to the UN distribution base.

So far, Peak International has signed about twenty long term contracts and dealt with a large amount of orders from the UN. As the largest Chinese supplier of the UN, the company has also gained long term contracts regarding PV systems and sewage disposal systems. These contracts alone are worth $160 million dollars in total. Recently, Peak also won an integrative project titled the UN Population Fund.
