Chengde to Have Its Own Nuclear Power Plant

May 11, 2011 No Comments

The initial study of the Hebei (Chengde) Nuclear Power Project which is under the operation of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGN), has been approved and is ready to move forward after a four-year effort. One-hundred and thirty experts from the Chinese Academy of Science joined the examination on the spot.

At the conference after the examination, experts suggested that the Chengde Nuclear Power Project should give priority to air cooling techniques. They also suggested to make it one of the national demonstration projects. CGN will soon cooperate with the government to draft a suggestion letter to the Development and Reform Commission.

Early in 2006 when Hebei Province decided to develop its own nuclear power, the local government signed the “Framework Agreement for Furthering the Development of Hebei Nuclear Power Project” with CGN. In cooperation with the Chengde government, CGN has found three possible sites for the nuclear power plant, and then accomplished the initial study.
