All street lamps and landscape lights in Zizhuyuan Park in Beijing have been solar powered recently. The grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system is able to supply the whole lighting system during inclement weather. So far 106 parks and scenic spots have started to use solar powered street lamps, and these 8,843 lights will save 12 million kWh every year.

As the official of ZIzhuyuan Park introduced, instead of modifying each lamp, they built up a new power system by paving solar panels on the roof of every possible house, which cut down the cost and retained the original landscape. According to the technician, the advantage of the grid-connected PV system is that it can be switched to the external power grid right after its own power supply is out. This will ensure all the lights will be on even during inclement weather. In addition, all the extra power that was generated by its own system can be transferred to external grids.
